About
The
Artist
Lloyd Harold and the arts have always been close friends. Around the age of five, he developed an affinity for drawing that would stick with him for the rest of his life. By high school, it was clear that he was a gifted artist with a unique perspective. Intent on making a living as a creative, Harold went on to attend Savannah College of Art and Design, graduating in 2007 earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. While attending college, he also began to make a name for himself on the Savannah music scene as rapper "KidSyc" and would eventually go on to win "best hip-hop act" for three consecutive years.
While music took the driver's seat for a number of years, art was always riding shotgun, as Harold taught elementary school visual art and always kept a sketchbook of drawings and ideas close by. After years of using his artistic talents for freelance illustrations, album covers and logo designs, he decided to take some of his pen and ink doodles and add some life by way of watercolor paints. The result birthed the "Just Imagine" series and a newfound interest in creating more paintings.
After trying out several paint mediums, Harold finally settled on acrylics and chose a style based on a synthesis of the works of Pablo Picasso and Jean Michel Basquiat. His subject matter ranges from light-hearted references to the simpler times of childhood ("Teenagers") to complex, esoteric themes ("Sins of the Father").
"Most of my work is about self-discovery in some way. Figuring out how to shed the many layers that accumulate throughout life and getting back to the purest version of self."
